The grilled cheese has had many “makeovers”, but I loved the idea of this sandwich because I felt it could be more of a stand-alone item versus being a side to soup. Not only that, it was easy. I love it when that happens. Enjoy!
Grilled Philly Cheese Sandwich
Sourdough bread
1 green pepper, diced small
1/2 yellow onion, diced small
1 lb. hamburger
Mozerella Cheese slices
In a medium sized frying pan, brown the hamburger. Remove the cooked hamburger from the pan and then using the same pan with browned bits, add some cooking oil and the diced vegetables. Brown and soften the veggies, then stir the hamburger back into the mixture.
Cut as many slices of bread and cheese as you want to make for your meal, then butter the outsides of your bread. Fill the centers with cheese and the meat/veggie mixture, and cook sandwiches until the cheese is melted and the outside is golden brown. (Tip: smash your sandwiches while they cook with the back of a heavy pan or a plate). Serve hot.
