This is a no-brainer for this mama. My inner designer immediately goes out the window (well, in a way) and practicality kicks in. Why would I want to scrub a bowl of spilled mac’n'cheese out of a rug, when I can quickly wipe the mess off of a hard surface? And getting out a vacuum for crackers/crumb messes? Nope. I want to grab a broom and be done.
I get how a rug “grounds” the space and can pull it together. This is a beautiful space:
But so is this (that floor!), and I can live with it, spilled milk and all! Beautiful design didn’t even go out the window.
Now to you….do you love or hate a rug in a dining room?

I’m with you. Don’t want a rug under my dining room table either. Might be because I have 3 young kinds, though!
I have three little ones too. Maybe we’ll want a rug when they are older? It would have to be an indoor/outdoor!
I think in the winter, a rug cozies up a dining room and in the summer, bare floors cools a space. I have a rug under my table and love how easy it is to vacuum.

Love how the word “cozy”…thanks for sharing. Maybe when I have older kids?
